Over last weekend and today, I finished up the first steps to making this website, 64SAINT.com, fully secure. As of this moment, the SSL certificate is installed so you should see https:// as the protocol for visiting the site (and trying to use http:// will just redirect you to the secure version), and those browsers that mark such things should have a closed padlock icon next to the address bar. Panhard 24CT in Antwerp
on Wed 30-May-2018 at 11:10 AM in General tags: panhard with No Comments
A week ago I was in Antwerp for the Techorama developer conference. Ordinarily that would not be interesting enough to post about here, but on the last day, the Thursday, as we were leaving we came across this wonderful car, a Panhard 24CT (and, yes, I admit I had to use Google to find out what it was). Even better, just like 64SAINT, it was red and it was from 1964. […]
My “other” Volvo 1800S

Long, long ago (OK, it was in 1998 that I sold it), far, far away (OK, England), I used to own a 1969 Volvo 1800S, the last year before it became the 1800E. Red, as well, as it happens. […]
Roger Moore, RIP

It had to happen sooner rather than later, I suppose, but I’ve just read the news that Roger Moore, erstwhile star of The Saint, the character that drove a certain model of Volvo, has died in Switzerland of a short battle with cancer. He was 89. […]

Yesterday’s post about Google Street View and 64SAINT and the fact it was posted somewhere else than this blog, prompted me to gather all the posts I’ve published elsewhere into one article right here. After all, this blog is about my “Volvo 1800S” – a term which could also encompass those posts I wrote about my previous one from 20 years ago. By doing this, I can more easily find them in the future. […]

I thought I’d posted this image here from a year or so ago, but it turns out that I’d only posted it to Facebook. Sigh. […]

As stated in my previous post, 64SAINT was captured on video for My Classic Car with Dennis Gage. The video of the full episode in now online. […]
My Classic Car (season 20 episode 5) preview–Vail Automotive Classic
on Tue 19-Jan-2016 at 11:13 AM in General tags: vailvideo with No Comments
Last September, Mark and Brett at Concours Cars borrowed 64SAINT and took it up to Vail for the two-day Vail Automotive Classic (we were on vacation at the time). There they met up with Dennis Gage of My Classic Car who was videoing a future episode. It turns out that the preview for that episode is now up on YouTube: […]
Why I own a Volvo 1800S
on Wed 8-Apr-2015 at 7:55 AM in General tags: video with No Comments
I’ve talked about this before – as a kid I watched The Saint with Roger Moore on the telly: Simon Templar drove a Volvo P1800 and I therefore wanted one – but in this video from Petrolicious John Patterson articulates the joy of owning one in a way that resonates with how I feel about it. The lines, the shape, the 60s craftmanship, the fun, the quirks. People give you thumbs up, they come and talk to you about it in the parking lot, they’ve never seen one before. It’s not ostentatious: it’s a Volvo. […]
More hints that P1800 prices are rising
on Fri 9-Jan-2015 at 9:01 AM in General tags: prices with 1 Comment
It seems that Gooding and Company have a red 1967 Volvo 1800S in their Scottsdale auctions in a week’s time (16 & 17 January). The car is a one-owner car, just over 10,000 miles, original paint and interior. The estimate? $50K to $70K. I would hazard a guess that, given the originality of this particular car, the winning bid will be at the high end of the range. Again, though, it points to the Volvo P1800 series becoming more and more attractive to car collectors and hence becoming pricier – and hence reinforcing the need for me to up my insurance. […]
